Sarah Jessica Parker, Blythe Danner to star in Amanda Peet’s new play

Sarah Jessica Parker and Blythe Danner are to star in the world premiere of Amanda Peet’s play “The Commons of Pensacola,” the Manhattan Theatre Club said.

Co-starring Zoe Levin, Ali Marsh, Michael Stahl-David and Nilaja Sun, the show is being directed by MTC’s artistic director Lynne Meadow.

The limited engagement is to begin previews Oct. 22. Opening night is set for Nov. 21 at MTC at New York City Center — Stage I.

“Judith [played by Danner] has been divested of her assets and forced to leave her luxurious New York life after her husband’s Wall Street scam became headline news. When her daughter Becca [played by Parker] and Becca’s filmmaker boyfriend [played by Stahl-David] pay Judith a visit to the one-bedroom condo Judith now occupies in Pensacola, Fla., everyone’s motives are called into question,” a synopsis said. “How will past and present circumstances inform how this family moves into the future?”

Danner and Parker previously starred together in MTC’s 1995 hit production “Sylvia” by A.R. Gurney.

Halston never paid Sarah Jessica Parker

The job titles ‘president’ and ‘chief creative officer’ usually imply hefty wages, but that wasn’t the case when Sarah Jessica Parker acted as both for revived fashion label Halston Heritage from 2010 until 2011.

The Sex And The City actress has revealed that she “really did work for free” for the brand, and that the whole experience was less than enjoyable, admitting that “some cultures can’t be undone.”

“We’ve all worked with complicated people,” Parker tells the September issue of US Harper’s Bazaar . “…and I always think that I can disarm them. I love collaborating. I’m a great listener and learner, and I don’t think I know more than they do. I’m transparent.”

In the same interview, Parker gives a little more insight into her new shoes and accessories line SJP , which will launch in the US in February. So what can we expect? “plenty of low heels, and unusual colour combinations like navy and mocha.”

Grosgrain ribbon will also be a ‘motif’, something her business partner in the brand, Manolo Blahnik CEO George Malkemus, says hasn’t been used in shoe design for a long time and is nostalgic for Parker as it reminds her of picking out hair ribbons with her mother when she was young.

Malkemus also reveals that SJP has a rather un-Hollywood response to new shoes: “She picks them up and smells them.” Which, going by the amount of box-fresh heels she wore throughout her tenure as Carrie Bradshaw, means she must be a serial shoe sniffer.

Sarah Jessica Parker on Matthew Broderick Marriage: “Call Me Crazy, But I Love Him”

Harpers Bazaar September 2013

Harpers Bazaar September 2013

Her iconic Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw may have been comfortable regularly dishing on her relationship woes and triumphs, but in real life, Sarah Jessica Parker prefers to remain mum about her personal life. In the September 2013 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, however, the actress confesses that she couldn’t be happier with the life that she’s created with husband Matthew Broderick — (mostly) out of the spotlight.
“I love Matthew Broderick. Call me crazy, but I love him,” she says of her husband of 16 years. “We can only be in the marriage we are. We’re very devoted to our family and our lives. I love our life. I love that he’s the father of my children, and it’s because of him that there’s this whole other world that I love.”

The couple, who tied the knot in May 1997, have three children together — son James Wilke, 10, and twin daughters Tabitha and Loretta, 4.

The 48-year-old actress, who next appears in the Off-Broadway show The Commons of Pensacola opposite Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother Blythe Danner, explains that for both herself and Broderick, 51, keeping their personal lives private has always been important.
“Matthew and I come from a different time and place,” she says of the actors’ humble beginnings. “When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors. We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream.”

“I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity,” she adds. “People have asked me about my marriage, ‘How do you make it work, and I say, ‘We don’t talk about it.’ That’s not really true. It’s sort of a nasty response.”
Parker’s indifference to celebrity even extends into her own pop culture icon status, she says.

Sarah Jessica Parker reveals her style secrets

What’s your best beauty tip?

Use any cream that says “elimination” in big bold leters on the jar! I swear by Garnier UltraLif cream. It targets wrinkles and dryness as well as being really inexpensive.

Which hair products do you swear by?

I like washing my hair with Bumble and bumble’s Sunday Shampoo. It’s about the only shampoo that gives my hair that squeaky clean feeling that I had as a child.

To condition, I use Kerastase Oleo-Relax Masque which isn’t cheap, but it really works on my dry, over-styled hair.

How do you stay in shape?

I don’t think I’m in that great shape these days. I have to workout a lot harder. Te body just doesn’t snap back in the way it used to when I was in my twenties!

I try to do yoga three times a week, and my twin daughters act like arm weights.

Do you have a style icon?

There are so many! I love the way Kate Moss looks. She has fantastic style and it seems uniquely her own.

But there are a lot of women who are not famous at all who have great fashion sense.

Does dressing up ever get tiring for you?

I never dress up that much. I used to dress up way too much in my professional life, or when I went to the theatre.

These days, I’m lucky if I go out to a friend’s house. Most of my day is spent as a mother, which requires an entirely different wardrobe.

Do you have a favourite store?

I really love Bergdorf Goodman in New York. It’s the most beautiful store in the world and I always think it looks like a sandcastle.

Although I appreciate beautiful clothes, I’m not into fashion as people expect me to be.

How do you relax?

I like to read, visit friends, watch TV, ride a bike or just do nothing around the house. Te most relaxing thing is just being at home with my family.

What are your feelings about cosmetic surgery?

Well, you know we still live in a free country and people are going to do what they’re going to do if it makes them feel better.

This is a very hard industry to age in, that’s for sure. And so I’m sympathetic, but it’s not just the entertainment industry, it’s everywhere.

It’s crazy.

I believe in buying as many anti-aging creams as possible!

Sarah Jessica Parker: Shoe line is ‘so exciting’

Sarah Jessica Parker says her new SJP shoe line is ”so exciting” and reveals that she approached Manolo Blahnik CEO George Malkemus with the idea.

Sarah Jessica Parker says her new shoe line is ”so exciting”.
The ‘Sex and the City’ actress has teamed up with George Malkemus, the CEO of Manolo Blahnik – the luxury shoe brand her iconic Carrie Bradshaw character was known for loving – for the new SJP shoe range, and Sarah is thoroughly enjoying the creative process of designing her own footwear.
She gushed to Harper’s Bazaar magazine: ”The shoe business is so exciting because we don’t have to think of black and brown as the only neutrals anymore.”
The actress’ colourful shoe line will feature bold colours like navy and mocha, feminine shapes and low cut heels, according to the magazine.
Sarah, 48, also revealed that she was the one who approached George with the idea of launching her own shoe line after fielding offers from major designers for fashion collaborations.
George added: ”She has a fan base in the fashion world that’s extraordinary, and it’s truly because she’s such a nice person. Were it anyone but Sarah Jessica, I wouldn’t have done it.”
The actress previously had her own clothing range, Bitten, and worked for free as creative director of Halston, but says the experience didn’t go smoothly.
She explained: ”We’ve all worked with complicated people and I always think that I can disarm them. I love collaborating. I’m a great listener and learner, and I don’t think I know more than they do. I’m transparent.”
Sarah’s SJP shoe line – which will range in price from $250 to $450 – will be available in Nordstrom stores in the US from February 2014.
