What Sarah Jessica Parker Is Most Excited to See at the 2014 Met Ball—Hint: It’s Menswear!

Forget the gowns! When it comes to the 2014 Met Gala, Sarah Jessica Parker is more eager to see the fellas all dressed (er, tux-ed) up.

“Seeing the men in white ties for the first time ever—it’s going to be incredible!” the star gushed to E! News at the Variety Power of Women on Saturday, April 25.

Naturally being a disciple of fashion, the shoe designer was also thrilled about the location and theme too. “Seeing that institute finally being opened after the years of renovation and seeing what will now be the largest Charles James collection in the world—it’s going to be amazing!”

Monday’s fête will be a big night out for the mom-of-three who usually likes to spends evenings at home with her son, James, 12, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, 4.

“They braid there own hair but let me do half,” the 49-year-old joked about hanging with her girls. “We do lots together. We bake, we cook, we draw, we braid hair, we talk a lot. We tell stories a lot, we read a lot.”

We can only imagine how exciting story time will be after SJP comes back from the big ball.

Sarah Jessica Parker Explains Twitter Feud About Twins, Girl Bashing

Sarah Jessica Parker is finally opening up about her recent, mysterious Twitter feud. Last month, the Sex and the City actress got into a heated argument with a woman named Sarah Symonds, who questioned if Parker was actually the mother of her twins Marion and Tabitha.

“I kept scrolling and then I was like, ‘Wait a minute, did she just say that?'” Parker said to The Edit of going through comments. “I went back and I thought, ‘Well, this isn’t unhealthy paranoia, this is absolutely conscious. This was a choice.’ She, not subtly at all, said that my children are not my children.”

“There have been a few—let’s say half a dozen—times in my career when I have wanted to respond. I don’t want to encourage people picking on her, because that’s no better,” Parker continued. “But I wrote back, ‘What? Like, is this fun?'” (At the time, Symonds quickly deleted the tweet in question after Parker responded.)

Parker, 49, and husband Matthew Broderick welcomed their twin girls back in June 2009 via surrogate. The married couple of 17 years, who are also parents to 12-year-old son James, typically keep a low profile with their family while residing in NYC. However, for Parker, this was an attack worth responding to.

“I can’t figure out what she hated so much about me that she did that. And I just can’t imagine anything lower than that,” Parker added to The Edit. “I don’t think you can be like that without thinking about what you are saying. Other people can be mean, and that’s something I just have to make peace with. That was my worry before engaging in social media; I was afraid of it. I see mean stuff every day: when I look at Twitter I scroll with one eye open and one closed. That particular day, it was just one of the things I saw.”

The feud was an eye-opener for Parker, in more ways than one. “I can’t stand [it] when women say unfriendly things to other women,” she added of women bashing each other. “Why does it have to be like that? Why do we go from [I disagree with you] to I hate you, I attack you, I use words that I know are hurtful? And we’ve never met! You’d think at this point in my life I would be accustomed [to it], but we keep finding new ways of expressing ourselves, new outlets to be unfriendly and cruel.”

Power of Women NY Honoree: Sarah Jessica Parker

002When Sarah Jessica Parker says she plans to help inject a modern, fresh feeling into the New York City Ballet by marrying the worlds of fashion and ballet, it’s a wild idea that immediately makes sense. Not just because the ballet is full of spectacle and theater, but because, face it: This is Sarah Jessica Parker, fashion icon and accomplished actress.

“I wanted to think about that next generation, how we were going to reach out to new audience members,” says Parker, who started working with the ballet in 1995, when she chaired the annual Dance With the Dancers event.

Trained in ballet herself, Parker has had a lifelong admiration for dance. But anyone familiar with her public persona knows that she’s also well-versed with the fashion world — which moved its Fashion Week tents into the NYBC’s Lincoln Center back yard in 2010, right around the time when Parker joined the ballet’s board of directors.

001More recently, she brought in fashion world A-listers like Valentino as well as new, young designers to create costumes for ballets in the hopes of sparking interest in that next generation.

Additionally, last November, Parker conceived and produced a documentary for AOL on Originals, “City.ballet,” a 10-part Web series that goes where cameras have never before been allowed — behind the scenes at the NYCB. “It’s about understanding a dancer’s life, and helping people who thought it was this rarefied art form understand that it’s athletic, coupled with extraordinary artistry,” she says.

Parker also gives her time to other charities, but it’s the NYCB that has captured much of her heart and attention. “Any time you can integrate arts into someone’s lives, they feel better for it,” she says. “It’s important to us as people, as Americans, to allow ourselves to appreciate the art form. We know that to be true.”
